Joining a live session
For tutors and students — camera, microphone, whiteboard, and what to do if something goes wrong.

Session statuses
| Status | What it means |
| Pending Approval | Booking requested — waiting for tutor to accept |
| Booked | Confirmed — waiting for tutor to start |
| Live | Class is running — students can join |
| Completed | Class ended normally |
| Ended | Time window passed without starting |
| Cancelled | Session was cancelled |
For tutors — start the class
- Open the session from Dashboard → Sessions or your upcoming schedule
- At the scheduled time (or a few minutes before), click Start Session
- Allow camera and microphone access in your browser
- Status changes to Live — students can now join
Students cannot join until you start. Always click Start Session first.
For students — join the class
- Check Dashboard → Upcoming classes or Sessions
- When status is Live, open the session page
- Click Join Session
- Allow camera and microphone when prompted
- You’re in the video room with your tutor and classmates
If you already joined and left, click Rejoin.
During the session
Video
- Toggle camera and mic on/off using the controls in the video room
- Use headphones to reduce echo
- Find a quiet place with stable internet
Whiteboard
- Click the pencil icon on the session page
- Draw and write together with your tutor in real time
- Both tutor and student can contribute (when the tutor has it open)
Screen share
Tutors can share their screen to show slides, documents, or websites.
Chat / Q&A
Some sessions have a comments or Q&A panel — use it to ask questions without interrupting.
Ending the session
Tutors: click End session when class is over. Everyone is disconnected and the status becomes Completed.
Students: you can leave anytime by closing the video or clicking leave — the tutor ends the session for everyone when done.
Timing rules
- You can join after the tutor starts — late join is OK
- If the tutor never starts, the session shows Ended after the scheduled window
- If the session already completed but is still within the time window, the tutor may see Restart Session
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Try this |
| No Join button | Wait for tutor to Start Session; refresh the page |
| Camera/mic blocked | Click the lock icon in the browser address bar → allow camera & mic |
| Can’t hear tutor | Check volume; ask tutor to check their mic; try rejoining |
| Video keeps freezing | Turn off your camera; use audio only; move closer to Wi‑Fi |
| Whiteboard not loading | Refresh page and rejoin the live session |
Recommended browsers: latest Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.
After class
- Recordings (if enabled) appear under Recordings on the session page and in Dashboard → Recordings
- Whiteboard snapshots save to Documents
- Session notes remain on the session detail page
