Overview
PathshalaOS lets your institute collect tuition and fees from students directly through the platform.
For US and most international institutes, payments run on Stripe Connect.
Students pay online; funds are split automatically between Stripe processing fees, a small Pathshala platform fee, and your institute bank account.
Requirements:
- PathshalaOS Institute plan or above
- Institute registered outside India (or country not set to IN)
- Valid business or individual tax details and US/international bank account
- Institute admin access to your PathshalaOS dashboard
1 Open Payment Setup
- Log in to your institute portal as an Institute Admin.
- In the left sidebar, go to Payments → Setup.
- Confirm the gateway shows Stripe (US/Global).
Gateway is chosen from your institute country. US and global institutes use Stripe; Indian institutes use Razorpay (see the India guide).
2 Start Stripe onboarding
- Enter your legal business name (as it appears on tax documents).
- Click Continue to Stripe.
- You are redirected to Stripe’s secure onboarding form (hosted by Stripe, not Pathshala).
On Stripe’s form, provide:
- Business type (individual, company, non-profit, etc.)
- Business address and contact details
- Owner/representative identity verification
- Bank account for payouts (routing + account number)
- Tax ID (EIN or SSN for US sole proprietors, as applicable)
Stripe may ask for additional documents. Complete all requested items until Stripe shows your account as enabled for charges and payouts.
3 Return to PathshalaOS
- After finishing Stripe onboarding, you are returned to PathshalaOS.
- Go to Payments → Setup or Payments overview.
- Status should show Payments active once Stripe verifies your account (may take minutes to 1–2 business days).
4 Configure fees
- Go to Payments → Fees.
- Click Add fee and set name, amount (USD), and description (e.g. “Monthly tuition”, “Course enrollment”).
- Save. Active fees appear on student course pages and payment flows.
5 Students pay
- Students open a course or fee link in the student portal.
- They click Pay and complete checkout on Stripe (card, and other methods Stripe enables).
- Payment appears under Payments → Transactions in your dashboard.
- Stripe sends payouts to your connected bank account on Stripe’s schedule (typically rolling 2-day in the US).
6 Manage payouts & refunds
- Transactions — view all student payments, fees, and net amounts.
- Settlements — track payout status to your bank.
- Refunds — issue refunds from the dashboard; Pathshala processes them through Stripe on your behalf.
- Stripe Express Dashboard — from Payments, open Stripe’s dashboard link to see payout details and tax forms (e.g. 1099-K where applicable).
Fee structure (typical)
| Item | Who pays | Approx. |
| Stripe processing | Deducted from payment | ~2.9% + $0.30 (US cards) |
| Pathshala platform fee | Deducted from payment | 2% (default) |
| Your institute receives | Bank payout | Remainder after fees |
Exact Stripe rates depend on card type and country. Platform fee may vary by plan — check your institute settings.
Your responsibilities
- Provide accurate business and bank information to Stripe.
- Set clear refund policies for students and communicate them on your site.
- Respond to payment or payout questions from students; contact Pathshala support for platform or dispute issues.
- Ensure your institute offers legitimate education services (Pathshala may review accounts before enabling payments).
Troubleshooting
Setup stuck on “Pending”
Log in to Stripe via the Express Dashboard link and complete any outstanding verification items.
“Institute has not completed payment setup”
Stripe onboarding is incomplete or charges/payouts are not yet enabled. Finish Stripe KYC first.
Wrong gateway (Razorpay instead of Stripe)
Your institute country may be set to India. Update organization country in Settings or contact Pathshala support.
